The PTA of the San Fernando government secondary school was introduced in 1973 and was launched thanks to the efforts of one of our well-known teachers Mrs. Indra Chattagoon.
Since its inception, the PTA has never once failed to offer assistance to the school in various activities when called upon to do so. The school's PTA deserves lavish commendation for all it has helped the school to achieve over the years. For instance the PTA was influential in having the school's courtyard paved (did you know that?) and it has provided assistance for the purchase of medals and trophies for school sports.
Apart form playing the role of benevolent provider, the PTA also played the role of pioneer. The school's PTA been the first in the area to implement a system whereby students are given an opportunity to participate and make contributions at PTA meetings. Student representatives have been given the opportunity to speak out on issues affecting the school society at PTA meetings. Other schools has since followed suit.
The PTA has one great stumbling block, which has plagued it throughout the years, that is, the lack of support from all parents and teachers. The PTA appeals to parents and teachers to act more responsibly and show more dedication towards the association that has been of such great benefit to the school in the past and will, no doubt, continue to do so in the future if given support.
The current president of the PTA is Mrs. Priscilla Paul.
